A Celebration of Handel's Messiah and other choral pieces
The Lismore Choir presents an evening of music at St. Carthage’s Cathedral, Lismore, to celebrate Handel’s Messiah on Saturday, 16th May.
Handel’s Messiah has been lifting spirits since it was first performed in Dublin in 1742.
It’s music that soars and celebrates. Music that stirs the soul. You’re carried through joy, tenderness, and triumph - led by radiant arias, thunderous choruses, and moments of sheer, festive magic.
Join the Lismore Choir and friends for a night of music that will fill the old Cathedral dedicated to St. Carthage - and stay with you long after the final note has rung out.
The Choir under the baton of Dr Mary O’Brien and accompanied by their beloved accompanist Colin Nicholls, as well as special guest singers and musicians, will present an evening of choral music to honour George Frideric Handel and his world-famous Oratorio.
The program will include some of the best-known arias and choruses from the Messiah as well as a selection of other popular choral pieces.
Hailed as a master of sacred and secular music, Handel's talent for composing for voice and instrument shines through in Messiah, which Irish audiences first took to their hearts in 1742.
Handel is consistently recognised as one of the greatest composers of his age, and the Lismore Choir are delighted for this opportunity of presenting this tribute to him.
